In March this year, Western House Academy signed up to the Great Big School Clean. The intention was to hold a large scale litter pick of the whole school grounds over the period of a week.
Each Year Group took it in turns to pick litter in a certain area of the grounds to ensure that everywhere was clean by the end of the week.
The Big School Clean Up was a very important event this year as, all Year Groups, including reception, litter picked the whole of the school grounds. Some of the Year 6s went out into our local area to litter pick.
In the Autumn, we harvested some pumpkins from our garden and then carved them ready for Halloween! The children had a lot of fun carving the pumkins with different designs.
In the Autumn Term, the Green Team put some bird feeders up so that the birds would be able to access the food over the winter months.
COMPOST
The Green Team have been collecting compost from the kitchen on a weekly basis. This included green waste, such as potato peel, carrot peel and other 'green' compost that can be added to the large compost bins.
Brown waste is also then added to the compost bins and then nature is left to break down the waste to make our very own compost.
RECYCLING
Every week, the Green Team take the recycling bins from their classrooms and empty them into the large recyling bins ready for collection.
