The OSDA recognizes that generative AI provides educational opportunities for students and is expanding in its applications. While generative AI can be used to guide students to articles, ideas, and sources, the OSDA asserts that using or paraphrasing text from generative AI as a student’s original work in competition is a violation of the OSDA’s ethical standards. Additionally, text from generative AI cannot be used as evidence in a round (debate, congress, extemp). The original source of any quoted or paraphrased evidence must be available if requested.
Generative AI may not be used at any time during a debate round, during a Congressional Debate session, or during Extemporaneous Speaking preparation time.
The Ohio Speech & Debate Association (OSDA) encourages and thanks you for submitting ideas for improving and developing all aspects of League business. To facilitate a uniform approach to submission and to ensure the Board of Directors receives all pertinent information, please complete the online form linked above as fully as possible.
Please Note:
1.) Proposals seeking to revisit a recent Board discussion or determination will not be incorporated into agendas.
2.) Action Proposals must be submitted at least 30 days prior, otherwise, they could be reserved for a future meeting.
3.) Submitted action proposals require the endorsement of three head coaches, at least one of whom must be from a different district than the coach submitting the proposal. None of the endorsements can be from OSDA Board Members.
