Internet tabs help you to organize all of the open Internet windows you are using, just like you would organize your class notebook! When you organize your class notebook, you have dividers with tabs to organize your class work into different categories.
The Internet works the same way! The Internet browser creates tabs to help you organize all of the different windows you may have open by creating tabs at the top of the browser window.
The image below shows you a Google image with two open tabs. If you look at the top of your computer screen, you should have 2 tabs open. The tabs will have an icon and the shortened name of the website, so that you can see what you have open.
