The Reading Challenge
Hello Year 7s! As you already know, you have been asked to read Secrets of the Sandstone by Piu DasGupta over the summer as part of The Kingston Academy’s ‘Summer Reading Challenge’. You should already have your copy of Secrets of the Sandstone and your bookmarks. All of the teachers at TKA will be reading the book too so that everyone has something in common in September. You will also be exploring the book in lots of your lessons during the first few weeks. As well as reading the book, you might want to have a go at these extra challenges too;
Extreme reading photo competition: Take the most adventurous and exciting photo of you reading ‘Secrets of the Snakestone’ over the holidays. Be as creative about this as you can!
A Letter to the author: Write a letter to Piu DasGupta telling her what you thought of ‘Secrets of the Snakestone’. Focus on your favourite parts of the book, the characters you found most interesting, and any suggestions that you think would have made the book even better.
Book cover design: Use your art and design skills to create your own book cover for ‘Secrets of the Snakestone’ inspired by your own reading of the text. Be as imaginative as you can, and try to think outside the box!
For those who take part, there is a chance to win a TKA prize!
Additionally, we have created an audio version of the book for you too. If you would like to hear your TKA teachers reading a chapter, please use the following links and read along with them! We hope you have a fantastic summer break and don’t forget to take part in the competitions listed on your bookmark!
