How long did you serve in the military?
1993-2000, Active Duty Army
How has art helped you after your time in the military?
Art calm my mind. Instead of getting caught up in my thoughts, I can focus my energy on creating something. For me, art provides a healthy outlet and is a better use of my time.
How does your chosen art medium help you express yourself creatively?
To me, there is no wrong way to create art. My chosen medium allows me to be creative without worrying about making mistakes. I give myself the freedom to take chances, experiment with different ideas and techniques, and explore where the process takes me. I enjoy seeing how something develops and discovering the outcome along the way. This freedom allows me to express myself creatively and enjoy the experience of creating without feeling limited by rules or expectations.
How long have you been practicing art?
As a child, I always enjoyed crafts and making things with my hands. Although I did not formally practice art for many years, my interest in being creative has always been there. I have recently found my way back to art and enjoy exploring different ways to express myself through creating.
What inspired you to create this piece of art?
I like the art I create to have a purpose. I needed a sturdy vase, so I decided to create one that was both functional and meaningful. The vase is made of iron, which represents strength, resilience, and the ability to withstand challenges. I added sun shapes to represent warmth, hope, and the light we carry with us through life. The circles represent connection, wholeness, and the continuous journey of life. I also incorporated eucalyptus, which represents healing, renewal, and new beginnings. Together, these elements remind me of the strength we develop through life, the importance of growth and renewal, and the beauty of continuing to move forward.
