Women’s Only Mini Student Showcase
These pieces were created in Women’s Only Operation ART Classes this past year. Since 2024, The Joel Fund has offered the option of women’s only Operation ART fiber art and clay classes in direct feedback from students. These classes give women veterans the opportunity to connect with one another through creative engagement.
The Joel Fund is supported by the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County.
Clay
I served 7-1/2 years in the USAF. My family initially taught me crafts from the time I could hold a pencil, needle, shuttle, & it's become my calming, healing place. TJF helps me learn new & better already learned crafts in a safe environment with new friends who share common experiences. I have rarely worked with clay, so creating this piece was really illuminating.

Clay
My husband is a 20 year veteran of the US Marine Corps. Our three sons are veterans of the Air Force and the Army.
Working with clay is a relaxing and enjoyable activity. The people in the class and from The Joel Fund have been a pleasure to work with.

I am the wife of a Marine Veteran. I have retired after working more than 50 years, and I am retracing some things that brought me great joy as a teenager. Pottery class is one of those things. I also look forward to learning to paint and taking photography classes.

Needle Felting
My husband served with the Marines during Desert Storm. I have been taking these classes as a way to relax. I was surprised how relaxing the needle felting was. You can be abstract or purposeful in what you create.
