I find myself in the flow state, like so many others, when activating my creative side in different art forms. I have never received a formal education, but deeply connect with the arts and find that it is an absolutely critical aspect to leading a balanced and fulfilled existence. As a math teacher, like Buckminster Fuller, I imagine math to live far beyond the chalkboard as an experience thinks differently about using numbers and logic. Above, this point is illustrated with a tensegrity Bucky Ball that was created in one of my geometry classes. One day, one next chapter in my life, I plan on fully dedicating myself to art.
As a Capoeira Angoleirx, I not only play instruments but make them. The instrument itself is traced back to Africa and I like to honor by respectively painting nature, wildlife and designs of the continent and culture. It is a much a process as a ritual creating a, from finding the right tree to taking the wire out of an old tire to growing the gourds, layered experience.
Since High School, I have always enjoyed sketching. It is my go-to medium and I find myself fully immersed in the activity. This is something that I tend to do when I have free time and tend to draw the still life forms that are around me. To capture the essence of your subject as a transformation of your senses is a revelation.
One of my all time favorite projects started with McDonald's lumpy old used cooking oil that didn't mee the standard for making into biodiesel. With the surplus of waste we thought creatively to make soap then create an event for the local carving artisans. Quite amazing how this beautiful Balinese cultural carving started as rancid unusable cooking oil waste.

A Big Tree that stood alone fell today
It wasn't a giant loud crash
It came down gently but noticeably
In disproportion to the magnitude of the life that was lived
With Omnipotent Gracefulness

I wrote this on the day that my Grandmother of 97 earlier this year. On this day the message arrived before the news came over the phone when a large coconut tree fell on our land. She had a huge influence of my life as a strong noble woman.
I help to facilitate this student Banksey-inspired project. Students used the signature stenciling graffiti technique and had the task at the same time convey a strong message related to climate justice. The above piece points out that significant wildlife is being lost to slash and burn land clearing for corporate monoculture palm oil plantations in Borneo.
Batik is regarded as perhaps the most culturally significant artforms in Indonesia. It is worn, not only traditional and ceremonial but also for diplomacy and it is the standard dress for politicians. This is my first attempt at the painting and waxing practice. I played it safe and went with my favorite tree, again the Baobab.
