High Hopes Academy Microschool
☀️ Kindergarten Framework: 2026–2027 School Year
Welcome to High Hopes Academy! At our microschool, we believe that early learning should be highly collaborative, active, and deeply engaging. While our small class size allows us to personalize instruction, our curriculum aligns directly with California State Standards to ensure every student builds a seamless, rigorous foundation for the future.
Here is a quick snapshot of what your child will master with us this year.
🎒 The Enrichment Ecosystem: What We Are Learning
📚 Reading & Literacy (Common Core) We use explicit, science-of-reading strategies to transition students from letter recognition into confident early decoding.
Phonics: Mastering all 26 uppercase/lowercase letters and their primary sounds through our comprehensive 148-lesson kinesthetic trail map.
Decoding: Blending simple CVC words (like cat, sit, hop) and conquering a rapid-recognition matrix of 150 high-frequency sight words.
Writing: Learning proper fine-motor letter formation, using a mix of drawing, dictating, and phonetic spelling to tell stories, structure basic sentence architecture, and express opinions.
🔢 Mathematics (Common Core) Our math focus is entirely on building deep "number sense" through hands-on materials, games, and logic across an intensive 148-lesson active trail sequence.
Counting: Counting to 100 by ones and tens; reading, writing, and visually tracking numbers 0 to 20.
Early Operations: Mastering basic addition (putting together) and subtraction (taking apart) for numbers up to 10 using tactical counting arrays.
Geometry: Identifying, sorting, and comparing 2D and 3D shapes (squares, spheres, cubes, triangles) to map out geometric architecture.
🧪 Science (Next Generation Science Standards) Science at High Hopes Academy is highly interactive, driven by observation, and brought to life through 36 dedicated single-page narrative modules and backyard laboratory experiments.
Forces: Investigating the physics of pushes, pulls, gravity, and raw motion.
Ecosystems: Discovering what plants and animals need to survive and how they interact with their environments during our nature walks.
Weather: Tracking local weather patterns, analyzing microclimates, and understanding seasonal changes.
🗺️ History & Social Studies We expand our students' worldview from themselves out into their communities and the past through 36 captivating storybook lessons and creative reenactment prompts.
Citizenship: Learning how to work in groups, practice individual responsibility, share, and establish foundational leadership roles.
Now vs. Long Ago: Exploring maps, unmasking community helper roles, tracking major inventions, and comparing modern life to ancient civilizations.
🎨 Studio Art: We cultivate creative expression and motor control through a 36-lesson low-stress studio art curriculum that blends historical milestones with messy, joyful exploration.
Medium Chemistry: Experiencing hands-on historical labs, from mixing raw egg-tempera paints to tracing upside-down perspective layouts and charcoal smudging.
Color Theory & Design: Masterfully blending primary color formulas to discover secondary shade transitions and cloud-tint softening.
Botanical Series: Applying structural geometry grid lines to draw and paint realistic, high-contrast natural subjects like sunflowers, tulips, and autumn oak leaves.
🎵 Music Appreciation: Our 36-lesson music module trains the ear and the mind by exploring the engineering, sounds, and rhythms of the global orchestra.
Instrument Identification: Navigating the histories and unique structural blueprints of 36 distinct instruments spanning Percussion, Strings, Woodwinds, and Brass.
Acoustic Mapping: Utilizing curated, child-friendly audio tracks to evaluate real instruments in action and mimic physical playing gestures kinesthetically.
🏃♂️ Physical Education & Gross-Motor Tracker: Because physical vitality is the foundation of cognitive focus, we prioritize daily active movement over sedentary classroom constraints.
Portfolio Compliance: We provide a premium, dedicated 175-Day PE Tracking Log for parents to seamlessly document daily physical landmarks.
Holistic Fitness: Tracking qualitative active milestones, open-air play, trail sprints, swimming, climbing, and high-energy trampoline coordination to celebrate full-body wellness.
💡 The High Hopes Advantage
Because of our intentionally small cohort, we don't teach these subjects in isolated blocks. We weave California's standards into immersive, multi-disciplinary projects, outdoor exploration, and child-led play. Your child gets state-aligned rigor, delivered with cozy, small-group attention.
🗓️ High Hopes Enrollment Note: To join our Kindergarten cohort for the 2026–2027 school year, your child must turn 5 years old on or before September 1, 2026.
