Welcome to High Hopes Academy, where early learning meets individual attention. Operating as a collaborative hub for local private homeschoolers (PSA filers), our microschool weaves California's core kindergarten standards into a rich, hands-on rhythm of multi-disciplinary projects, outdoor exploration, and creative play. We keep our cohort intentionally small so your child receives the personalized guidance they deserve while building lifelong friendships!
At High Hopes Academy, we don't believe learning should be confined to four walls and a desk. We operate as a nature-immersive, mobile cottage school model that perfectly balances collaborative group days with precious family time at home. Our Homeschool Model: A Free, Collaborative Micro-Classroom
High Hopes Academy is a 100% tuition-free, passion-driven microschool model. We don't believe that high-quality, nature-immersive education should come with a heavy price tag.
Because we are a free community cooperative, parents maintain full legal oversight of their home-based private schools (via the California PSA), while High Hopes Academy acts as your volunteer instructional partner 3 days a week. We provide the structure, the socialization, and the adventure, completely free of charge.
How Our Week Flows:
3 Days of Community Adventure (Drop-Off/Collaborative): Three days a week, our small cohort meets out in the real world. (weather permitting) We utilize our beautiful local environment, turning parks into science labs & PE, the lake into a geography lessons, the library into a literacy hub, and cozy home spaces into art studios.
2 Days of Comfort at Home (Independent Homeschooling): The remaining two days of the week are spent in the comfort of your own home. High Hopes Academy provides curated weekly work packets and learning goals so you can easily guide your child through independent practice at your own family's pace.
Why Our Parents Love This Model:
Real-World Socialization: Your child gets the tight-knit, consistent social circle of a school cohort without being stuck inside an institution all day.
Active, Nature-Based Learning: We bring California’s Kindergarten standards to life through movement, fresh air, and hands-on exploration.
The Ultimate Flexibility: You maintain full legal control as an independent homeschooler (via your PSA), enjoying a flexible 4-day or 5-day week rhythm that works for your household.
✨ Meet the Founder
Michele Peden
Hi there! I’m so glad you’re here.
My journey with home education is unique. I actually grew up as a homeschooled student right here in California, graduating at 16 years old. But if you had told me back then that I would grow up to homeschool my own children, I would have laughed. For a long time, it wasn’t something I ever planned on doing.
Life had other plans, though. When COVID hit, I found myself suddenly thrust into home-educating my older kids. What started as an unexpected detour turned into five wonderful, eye-opening years of guiding them through their learning.
After a little break, I am dipping my toes back into the water to homeschool my son, who has special needs. Navigating this new chapter reminded me just how beautiful, and sometimes overwhelming, the world of home education can be, especially when you're trying to find the right path for your child.
Through all my years on both sides of the homeschool desk, I’ve learned one absolute truth: socialization and community aren't just perks of homeschooling, they are mandatory for our kids (and us parents!) to thrive. Living in the beautiful Kern River Valley, I noticed a deep need for a consistent, active, and local group where our young learners can bond and grow together.
That is why I created High Hopes Academy, for homeschool families like us looking to connect with other homeschool families for Art, Music, History, Science, PE, field trips, and more!
I wanted to remove the financial stress of microschooling so that any local family can access a high-quality, nature-immersive community. Whether you are completely new to homeschooling and have no idea where to start, a veteran looking for some company on this wild venture, or you simply want a safe, joyful, and active space for your child to socialize three days a week, High Hopes is here for you.
We are in this together, and I can't wait to welcome your family into our little mobile cohort!
