Gifted identification testing is currently taking place at each campus and will continue through November. (updated 11/4)
The gifted identification process is lengthy and can vary from student to student. It can take an entire school year for the process to be completed, and in some instances, it can even extend into the next school year. The process of identification will depend on several different qualifications. Please refer to your student's grade level band for more information.

An automatic referral is conducted through a district-wide assessment process for all students- currently, this is the MAP assessment. A student who scored in the 75% or higher is automatically referred for further gifted evaluation.
A reported referral may be made by teachers, counselors, administrators, parents/guardians, peers, self, or others with knowledge of student’s academic abilities. An eligibility review will be conducted by the local school’s Eligibility Review Team, and the district-wide assessment process will be followed.
Kindergarten students are just beginning to learn how to be in school, how to test in various ways, and they are met with an immense amount of new information. A review team will work together to go through the following process to determine the needs for high-level learners within the Kindergarten classroom.
1. Parents/guardians have a discussion with the kindergarten teacher about the student's needs.
2. Teachers implement interventions/modifications in the regular classroom to address the students' needs while collaborating with the Gifted Coordinator.
3. Progress monitoring data is collected on specific skills that have been identified for intervention.
4. The decision-making team meets to further support the student. The decision-making team will recommend an evaluation if it is appropriate and necessary.

Students who score in the 90% or higher on MAP:
Begin with the CogAT assessment in the fall.
Teachers will complete the Renzulli observation scale to note motivation and creativity
Students who do not meet 96% or higher on CogAT may sit for the Naglieri in the spring
Students who do not meet 90% or higher on the Renzulli may receive additional assessments in the spring:
Torrance for creativity
GPA (middle school) for motivation
NOTE: Teacher evaluation scales (Renzulli) can only be used for one eligibility area. Therefore Torrance is often given to assess for creativity since Renzulli is used for motivation.
