Our school partners with EL Education, a educational philosophy that focus on student achievement and engagement. Every grade level embarks in what's called a learning expedition, a long-term interdisciplinary study where students make real-life connections through anchor texts, authentic research, engagement with the broader community, and application of knowledge and skills based on local (and global) topics.
We began our expedition kickoff in early February visiting Table Rock State Park, SC to walk along the Fire Trail. With the guidance of park rangers, students walked, observed, and listened to how fires have played a role in shaping the area. This was brought back to Mr. Chris' Environmental Science class as students learned about the causes and impacts of climate change.
Dayna Reggero, founder of the Climate Listening Project, visited our campus to talk to students on how to engage audiences through podcasts. She brought along Garrett Martin, a local filmmaker, currently producing "The Sustainability Story" project. Two of our students were invited by Dayna to be interviewed and part of the "Speaking of Travel" podcast series and one group was chosen by Garrett to be part of his documentary!
