About twelve years ago, Haley Steele welcomed her first dog, Daisy, into her life. Haley adored Daisy and soon realized how deeply pets enrich our lives. Inspired by that bond, she wanted to help others care for their animals — especially those facing hard times. Her vision was simple but powerful:
If pets are fed, families don’t have to choose between feeding their animals or themselves.
By providing pet food to those in need, fewer animals would be rehomed, abandoned, or surrendered to shelters.
Haley turned that vision into action by founding Daisy’s Pet Food Group. For a year, she poured her heart into helping families and their pets. But the demands of running a nonprofit were overwhelming, and eventually she had to close its doors. Still, the dream never left her.
Tragically, Haley passed away in a car accident in April 2020. In her honor, and with a desire to continue her mission, The Daisy Project was born in April 2025. Starting with just a Facebook page, an EIN, and a single bag of dog food handed out in a parking lot, the project quickly grew.
