Session 01 | Leverage Appreciative Inquiry for Strategic Innovation

November 2021
Hosts | Paul Bloomberg, Isaiah McGee, and Isaac Wells

Session Video | Forthcoming

Appreciative Inquiry helps human-centered organizations move toward a shared vision for the future by engaging their communities in strategic innovation. "At its heart, Appreciative Inquiry is about the search for the best in people, their organizations, and the strengths-filled, opportunity-rich world around them. Appreciative Inquiry is a fundamental shift in the overall perspective taken throughout the entire change process to 'see' the wholeness of the human system and to 'inquire' into that system's strengths, possibilities, and successes" (Stavros, Godwin, Cooperrider, 2015).

Session 02 | Design a Balanced Assessment Framework

District and site Impact Teams collaborate to create a “balanced assessment framework” that includes state tests, universal screening, diagnostic assessment, formative assessment, progress monitoring, and teacher observations to inform collective actions about tiered support placement. This also includes data collection methods such as family and student voice surveys for continuous systemic improvement.

Session 03 | Accelerate Learning with Learner-Centered, High Impact Strategies

Using appreciative inquiry, we’ll discuss the impact of high-impact strategies on students’ social, emotional, and academic learning and determine our focus for collaborative problem-solving.

All students deserve standards-based, culturally and linguistically relevant instruction in their general education classroom settings. Impact Teams (PLCs) strengthen core instruction by collecting and triangulating multi-dimensional evidence, grounding their collective actions, and intentionally creating conditions that enhance learner efficacy. Teams of educators increase learner efficacy by:

  • Nurturing quality partnerships with students and families by strengthening relational trust.

  • Implementing differentiated instruction aligned to the Universal Design for Learning framework.

  • Designing and delivering an equitable, viable, and coherent curriculum.

  • Implementing core formative practices, grounded in state learning progressions, to accelerate learning and strengthen student ownership and agency.
