Tier 1: It Starts with a Nurse
Nurses
We provide nurses with a framework, a new perspective, and the tools they need to be able to show-up differently for both themselves and others. We show them how to navigate the healthcare system through a different lens, one that puts them - the nurse - first.
We are here to provide nurses with the tools to change the trajectory of their personal and professional lives. We are educating nurses about what it means to be a Holistic Nurse, to embody a lifestyle that is nurturing, fulfilling, and focused on balance and harmony. We are provinding nurses with the framework of holism that brings forth transformation. We see nurses are on the verge of leaving the profession, that are burnt out and are seeking something different. At TheCIINDE© we are helping nurses reimagine the heART of nursing. We are doing something different.
Tier 2: Sharing the Message
Universities
We believe that an upstream approach to educating nurses is paramount. Currently universities are graduating nurses who are not equipped to withstand the hardships they are bound to face when they enter the workforce. Nurses are taught that nursing is a caring profession and that compassion is paramount to providing optimal care; however, they are not taught the importance of turning that caring and compassion inward. We believe that information and education in undergraduate programs educating nurses on the power of putting the nurse first will change outcomes for the better. We believe that educating the educators on what holistic nursing truly is, and how to use nurse coaching techniques with their students will produce stronger and more resilient nurses.
Partnerships & Collaborations
Through partnerships and collaborations, we are advancing Holistic Nursing and Nurse Coaching. By collaborating with organizations who we feel aligned with, we are spreading our message. We are moving beyond grassroots and aligning with organizations who believe in the value of the nurse as an agent of change.
An exapmple of a collaboration we are fostering is with the California Institute for Human Science (CIHS). CIHS is a university research center, and a public learning community committed to exploring the interconnection of mind, body, and consciousness through research-informed programs in integral health, integral noetic sciences, and psychology. Both institutions seamlessly integrate eastern and western approaches to healthcare, education, and spirituality: promoting students, faculty, and staff as self-care agents and coaches. We share a collective goal to act as role models in the community for assisting others in achieving optimal health and well-being, while preventing illness and disease.
Advocacy & Leadership
We meet and collaborate with key stakeholders, locally and globally, to raise awareness about Holistic Nursing and Nurse Coaching while advancing our educational offerings.
With a growing emphasis on our collective and global health, TheCIINDE © is committed to creating a global community of nurses who support, encourage, and inspire one another to enhance the overall well-being of both themselves and the collective. As we revive the heART of nursing, we envision a world where nurses honor nurses, support one another, and advocate for adopting a lifestyle where self-care is embedded in everything they do. We can shift how we reflect on our health as we care for ourselves as individuals, as families, and as a global community. We can find new and innovative ways to strengthen our commitment to caring and living wholeheartedly, while also advocating for healthy people on a healthy planet.
To work towards this goal, TheCIINDE © was granted accreditation for nursing continuing professional development (NCPD) in November 2021, from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This accreditation demonstrates our commitment as an innovative organization to using evidence-based criteria when developing high-quality educational initiatives that promote the professional growth of nurses.
Tier 3: Systemic Solutions
The Healthcare System
At TheCIINDE© we believe that when nurses are given the chance, they are capable of incredible things. We see how they have the ability to inspire one another and their patients. They are compassionate, caring, and are changing the system.
Health Authorities & Government
Health Authorities and various levels of government across Canada are looking for solutions. They are looking for answers to questions on how to retain nurses, how to ensure better outcomes for patients and clients, and ways in which healthcare professionals can practice according to their full scope of practice.
TheCIINDE© is certifying nurses in Holistic Nursing and Nurse Coaching which can help across the healthcare system. What nurses are learning in our program can offer solutions within the acute care system and the community.
"Healthcare in the 21st century requires a radically different type of nurse who understands relationship-centred care and human flourishing. Holistic, integral and integrative nursing, along with nurse coaching, are guiding behavioural change strategies, health promotion, health maintenance and disease prevention. These perspectives and strategies provide a wide range of choices for individuals that are efficient and effective, and that reduce costs. This is fundamental to transforming health care from a disease model of care to one that focuses on health and wellness." (Dossey & Keegan, 2016, p. xxiv)
Holistic Nurses and Nurse Coaches can effect positive change in virtually any area of practice. Within institutions, they are acting as a resource by providing support for nurses (and, other healthcare professionals) to ensure that they have a safe space to debrief, develop resiliency, and engage in on-going self-care practices that build resiliency, while improving health outcomes for the nurse; while others are expanding on these skills, using them to enhance the care they provide for their clients. The goal is that clients feel empowered and better able to manage and sustain optimal health upon discharge.
Holistic Nurse Coaches in independent practice are equipped to work closely with individuals and groups to co-create solutions that are empowering and support individuals in making healthier and sustainable lifestyle choices. On-going support from a Holistic Nurse Coach decreases the need for medical attention minimizing doctors visits and hospitalizations. We see this as a win-win situation for both the client and an overtaxed healthcare system.
Are all Holistic Nurses & Nurse Coaches medically trained to work in hospitals?
Yes. A holistic nurse is a licensed nurse who uses nursing knowledge, theories, expertise, and intuition to recognize and care for the whole person within their scope and standards or practice, and the holistic nursing specialty. Holistic nurses are in the community and acute care settings. They can perform all the typical treatments in a hospital setting, however, they take additional steps to help our patients heal physically, emotionally, mentally, socially and spiritually. Holistic nurses use their expertise to help their clients determine how to navigate their individual healing journey.
The delivery of health care now takes patients lifestyles and mental well-being into account, and complementary and integrative modalities are becoming more widely requested and accepted in the healthcare system. As patient-centred care accelerates to the forefront, the demand for skilled nurses who can approach their work holistically is increasing, as well. Along with providing individualized care, nurses are often called upon to coordinate care for their patients among various healthcare practitioners. With specialized training and understanding of multiple healing modalities, culture, and mind-body-spirit care, holistic nurses are often best equipped to perform this role, helping to bring the whole person's care and healing back to health care.
