Parent-teacher organizations in the United States began forming in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The National Congress of Mothers, founded in 1897 by Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst, later became the National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), the oldest and largest child advocacy association in America. The PTA aimed to advocate for children's education, health, and welfare, promoting collaboration between parents, caregivers, and teachers. Over the years, various other parent-teacher groups emerged, focusing on similar goals. Today, these organizations play a vital role in supporting schools, enhancing educational experiences, and fostering community involvement. We speak with one voice for every child.
At Castle Hills Elementary PTA, we welcome all parents and teachers, regardless of their availability to volunteer. While we rely on volunteers to run our programs, we understand that many members work full-time and may not be able to participate during school hours. By joining our PTA, your membership dues support school-wide programs and enhance the PTA's advocacy efforts at state and national levels, benefiting all children. Our diverse membership includes both active volunteers and those who support us through membership alone.
