Key Learning Objectives:

• Introduction to Puppetry: Discovering the history, styles, and techniques of puppetry from around the world, including hand puppets, rod puppets, shadow puppets, and marionettes.

• Puppet Construction: Learning the basics of puppet construction, including materials, design, sewing, sculpting, and assembly techniques to create unique and expressive puppets.

• Character Development: Exploring the process of character development for puppets, including voice, movement, gesture, and personality traits that bring puppets to life.

• Manipulation Techniques: Mastering the art of puppet manipulation, including lip-syncing, eye focus, hand gestures, and body movement to convey emotions and actions effectively.

• Storytelling and Performance: Developing storytelling skills through puppetry, creating original narratives, scenes, and performances with puppets, and learning how to engage and captivate audiences.

• Collaborative Puppetry: Practicing teamwork and ensemble work in puppetry performances, coordinating movements and interactions between multiple puppets and puppeteers.

Class Structure:

Requirements:

• No prior experience in puppetry is necessary. This class is open to students of all ages and backgrounds who have a passion for storytelling and creativity.

• Participants should come prepared to get their hands dirty and engage in hands-on puppet construction activities, as well as perform with puppets in front of an audience.
