About Student Conduct 101

We are excited to announce the revitalization of "Student Conduct 101," part of ASCA's educational programming. We recognize that our Gehring Academy happens once a year, and some of our members begin their journeys in student conduct roles after the end of the academy or would like content specific knowledge during the academic year. We have created a virtual intensive training, with modules on varied topics, that is designed to provide a foundational understanding of student conduct.

Student Conduct 101 has been a part of ASCA in some form over the past seven years. Faculty have included content experts from a variety of different institutions and organizations as well as volunteer leaders and staff within ASCA.

The most exciting new feature of SC 101 is our "a la carte" delivery method of content. Rather than one "track" of SC 101 that includes all of the topics, we determined that practitioners should be able to select the content most relevant to them and their needs. You can take anywhere from one to all five modules depending on your professional role or interests. This way, too, our Primary Practitioners (faculty) can focus on delivering specific knowledge from their area of expertise, instead of only briefly skimming the surface of these crucial knowledge and skill areas.

We also understand that attendees have many professional and personal commitments. Therefore, we have built in time for self-guided work as part of the module; i.e., each module sets aside two hours for outside of the "classroom" reading and material review. This allows for more flexibility than eight hours of synchronous content plus hours of self-guided study.

Additionally, we will be offering continuing education credits for Student Affairs Educator Certification.  Click here for more information about SC 101 and CEs or email Amanda Mesirow at aed@theasca.org for more information. FYI, you do not have to have Certification in order to attend SC 101 or 201! Earning CEs is an option for those certified, however.

These modules are perfect for those new to student conduct or transitioning to conduct work from another functional area, as well as administrators with minimal or no conduct experience who have conduct officers in their supervisory portfolio.

The Student Conduct 101 (SC 101) Planning Committee is led by ASCA Assistant Executive Director Amanda Mesirow and Co-Lead Dr. Marcy Louis, in partnership with the Planning Practitioners: Nicky Renault, Lechelle Scott, Dr. Marc Shook, Dr. Bonnie Taylor, and Paige Townley. We are also pleased to have our Primary Practitioners share their content expertise with us.
