Academy of Our Lady of Peace

Virtual Learning Plan

What is virtual learning?

This site details the Academy of Our Lady of Peace virtual learning options in the event that the school must be closed due to an emergency health situation. This action plan allows AOLP to operate remotely while continuing to provide meaningful instruction to students through the use of a variety of instructional resources. The sections below detail the school’s plan to ensure fluid operation during this time as well as equitable access for all students.

A virtual learning day is a remote school day where students and staff have an opportunity to explore and engage in meaningful learning experiences that are aligned to the curriculum and connected to standards. While nothing replaces the genuine human interactions that happen authentically in the classroom between students and teachers, virtual learning will support continuity of instruction while we are unable to be in our building in the event of a health-related closure.

Virtual learning school days will run as detailed in the section entitled “Schedule.” Our virtual learning schedule will allow teaching staff adequate time to present the learning experience to support students as they access information, develop a routine for learning at home and communicate with their teacher(s). Teachers will be available during normal school hours daily either in their scheduled live meet or through Google Classroom and G-Mail. We have allocated time to specifically support students on an individual basis, On Fridays in middle school and at the end of the school day for our elementary school students. Thirty minutes of each day should be set aside for physical activity recommended by Mr. Gargiulo.

When will virtual learning take place?

While we are able to provide live streaming of our classrooms in a hybrid learning environment, students will have full access to all course content through the live stream. Teachers will provide a link to their Google Meet in Google Classroom.

In the event that we are forced to move to a virtual learning model, teachers will post their learning plans using the links to the right. Google Meet links will be provided through Google Classroom. Students are expected to participate live minimally during ELA and math at the elementary level and in the core content areas (ELA, Math, Social Studies and Science) at the middle school level. Students will participate in additional live instruction in Religion and Spanish following the grade level schedule posted on each grade level page. Specials area teachers will provide a suggested weekly activity for students to complete from home. In many cases this will include a prerecorded video by the teacher.
