The faculty of The Academy of Our Lady of Peace want every child attending our school to achieve their personal best. As our Mission Statement states; “We prepare our students by working as a team and using innovative teaching and learning methods so that each child can achieve joy in everyday challenges and successes.”
In these uncertain times, it’s important that we set certain expectations of our students. If we are to return to remote learning, the faculty has set forth the following expectations regarding student conduct.
We ask that you help and support us by reviewing these guidelines with your child. Our goal is to provide the very best experience and faith-based education possible, both in school and during distance learning.
General expectations:
Students must attend all scheduled online classes as attendance will be taken. If the student is unable to attend for personal reasons (doctor’s appointment, sickness, etc.), the parent should let the teacher know ahead of time through an email prior to the start of the scheduled online class.
Students should attend online classes in a common area in the home; on a bed is not acceptable.
Students should dress appropriately and should not be in their pajamas. School polo shirts are encouraged but not required.
The student’s device camera must be turned on during attendance and during any online assessments as they are being administered.
Students need to be sitting in a chair and at a table if possible.
Preschool students should have an adult nearby to assist with technical issues if possible.
Middle school students should check PowerSchool on a regular basis as well as their Google Classrooms to be sure that they are meeting the requirements and due dates for all of their posted assignments. students should hand in all assignments and contact the teacher if an assignment is missed.
Students are prohibited from taking any photos or creating any recordings of their faculty and/or fellow students during video conferences.
Students should refrain from eating during classes.
Students and/or parents should regularly check the Distance Learning News section on the home page of the school website for any additional lessons or messages regarding the Special subjects of Art, Spanish, Technology, STREAM, Music, Physical Education, and Library. https://theacademyolp.org/check-here-for-special-subject-activities.
Netiquette expectations:
Be courteous to your teachers and classmates - don’t type in all capitals and don’t post or email if you’re angry or upset about something. Take time to digest what you want to say and be respectful.
Check your grammar and spelling. Do not use texting language while posting or commenting online for school.
Do not share personal information unless it is appropriate to do so.
Remember to credit the ideas and works of others when working on assignments.
Type in a legible font that is easy to read and limit your use of emoticons.
Be polite as you would face to face in online conversations. Sometimes it is hard to interpret people’s tone with online communication so be careful. Address your teachers with appropriate titles.
