Please describe one of your biggest accomplishments in terms of learning and growth as a designer / professional and one of your biggest challenges. Reflective Essays
One of my biggest accomplishments was designing, researching, modelling, drafting, and rendering out the courtroom interiors of the Des Moines Federal Courthouse (DMFCH)... The challenge began with modelling all the courtroom interiors in Revit and creating the necessary families in the courtrooms which required precise modelling and research on the placements and dimensions of the caseworks and wall paneling within the courtrooms. All of these were documented and annotated in detail within the construction documents.The next step was rendering out these interiors to show the effect of material and placement according to the eye level of spectators and judges, to show the final effect of the courtroom interiors.
Summarize the responsibilities/duties you’ve had in your work.
Working as a Designer in a small firm required all designers and Architects to be proficient in all parts of a project. My responsibilities had a wide range. My main responsibility was modelling in Revit and drafting in CAD. One of my other responsibility was creating physical models. My other duties included rendering, photo editing, diagraming, and conducting research on all the aspects of a project (similar examples, materials, zoning, space requirements, code studies...etc).
Looking ahead, describe your next steps and goals in practice and in academics. What is your plan for achieving those goals?
My main Goal in life is implementing a sustainable, eco-friendly way of life through design, which it would also promote social and economical equalities where all three paths of Goal Professional Excellency, Academic Advancement and Personal Consideration would work in parallel to achieve that main Goal. For Professional Excellency, I am working towards getting my architecture license to undertake bigger and more important projects. I am working to further advance my academic knowledge by getting masters degree and working towards PhD. Plus to the mentioned having the personal consideration to the right thing and having strong ethical values is what makes an architect complete.

The basis of every project or any step of a project requires a series of research and proper planning. Furthermore, a big project requires a high communication and collaboration skill to ensure that every part of the project is taken care of and avoid duplicate work. I also learned how to work in between many software to get the best results.

Overall this project was one of the most challenging and influential projects in my carrier. It pushed me to learn learn new software, widen my horizon of design, approach design problems from many sides. In this project I designed and modelled all the pieces of courtroom interior, wall paneling, and ceiling in Revit, then rendering them using Vray in Rhino 3D.
How did you work to complete the work, solve problems, and create solutions?
First plan out all the duties, then prioritize the necessary ones and then work on all the requirements one by one to get to the final product.

I was a part of this project since the begining... I was a part of the intial programming and design conception. The project progressed through schematic design and design development to construction documents and estimate set. Along the wat I participated in researching, modelling drafting, creating physical model, and rendering for this project.

This project was one of the fun projects to work on. A museum demands certain types of research like air quality and temperature range in order for artifacts to be preserved along with the other necessary architectural codes and regulations. Which shows that every project must be dealt with individually.

You might not always the most idea of setting for a project. Sometimes a project, like this one needs more attention and precision, especially in the beginning since it is the basis of the new design. Photography and site analysis are two important parts of any successful projects.
How did you work to complete the work, solve problems, and create solutions?
In the beginning the problem of this project was the lack any precedent construction document. So I needed to pick up the dimensions of the entire project, including the dimensions of the wooden trusses and structure, since the client wanted to keep the original design of the house. Then we needed to change the design of the building so that it would meet its new function as a hospitality center rather than a residential unit.

This project, was my first project working with existing structure and working on a pre-designed and pre-constructed structure. It taught me how to create drawings for existing conditions, site analysis, photography and also how trellises are using in vineyard! It was also the first time I undertook the responsibilities of running a project, at least during the firsr stages of the project.
