This year in Level 1 Spanish, you will learn to be able to understand and produce more complex language. You will learn to be able to communicate beyond the immediate context, for example, past and future events. You will also learn to be able to produce a variety of text types in Spanish. See:

Homework is a given! Every minute you put in independently reaps rewards. It is imperative you spend time on Language Perfect EACH DAY. This is because the vocabulary in the programme is what will be used in the external examinations and learning it this way is fun! (You know that already!) At this level you are responsible for your homework. New work is taught at every lesson and homework is your way of consolidating the knowledge.
You are going on a year’s exchange to Spain starting at the beginning of their summer holidays. You will be writing a number of pieces relating to your exchange and you will deliver a spoken presentation about your school and daily life.
Candidates are expected to understand more complex language that goes beyond the immediate context e.g. past and future events. This will involve sentences and frequently used expressions related to basic personal information in areas of most immediate relevance. The texts will reflect the relationship between language and culture and be adapted as appropriate.
Candidates are expected to be able to recognise:
• where a noun, adverb, or adjective can easily be constructed from the verb or vice versa;
• obvious cognates and loan words
• numbers, days of the week, and months of the year
• structural words like articles, pronouns, and prepositions.
Words in the texts that are not in the Appendix will be glossed only if they are essential to understanding of the texts. The Appendix can be accessed at:
Each question will provide opportunities for candidates to show evidence of all levels of achievement.
Judgment of the level of achievement for each question will be based on the qualitative (not quantitative) criteria. Judgement of the level of achievement for the standard as a whole will be holistic.
