Unpacking the markscheme in our own words
Criterion A - Language
· Vocabulary is about the question topic
· A mix of different words, avoid using the same words all the time
· Idiomatic expressions – sounds natural. Doesn’t have to be sayings, para mí / a lo mejor / para concluir
· Basic grammatical structure – me gusta / si + present + future / conjugations / comparisons / superlatives
· Complex grammatical structures – connectives / comparing tenses (cuando era pequña… pero ahora….) / subjunctive / recommendations (yo que tú + conditional) / imperative
· Mistakes can be made, however, they can’t interfere with what you want to say. Avoid trying to say stuff you don’t know how to say. Simple is best.
Criterion B - Message
· You need to understand the question. VOCBULARY
· Develop your ideas: 3 developments. (idea statement + development + development + development = paragraph)
o Opinion
o Example
o Contrasting / comparing / explaining / justifying / providing more information / opposing / contrasting tenses / contrasting people / opinions of others / evaluation / applying idea to another context
o CONNECTIVES
· 3 DIFFERENT IDEAS
· PLAN
· Structured well. Paragraphs. Skip a line.
· Punctuation
· Sequencing – structural phrases (Primero, Segundo, para concluir, en conclusión)
Criterion C - Context - Audience - Purpose
o Register - Formal – informal tú / usted
o People – singular / plural = tú / usted / ustedes (inf. And form. For ‘you all’)
o What? Who to? Why? = text type
Unpacking Criterion B: Message in our own words (Developing ideas)
Elevating the message to achieve higher points
The questions in Paper 1 are written in a way to allow a range of abilities to answer the question. A Year 11 could answer the question using simple language. The question is - how do you elevate this to Language B SL 6/7?
What themes the question refers to (it could be more than one)?
What aspects of the themes can you bring into your writing?
How can you show intercultural understanding?
