Class overview
Welcome to 6th Grade ELA! This year, we will explore various authors and dive into stories that lead us back to our reoccuring theme: The triumph of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
Through our reading and writing, I hope you discover a little bit about yourself, as well as how you fit into the world around you. Perhaps you will find commonalities with the characters in our books, gain an understanding of how coming of age affects all of us at different times, or just simply develop a deeper love of reading.
I am excited to share with you amazing stories, mysterious real world dramas, and hear your developing voice as a writer! Here's to a great year!
About me
I am so excited to be your teacher this year! A little about me...
I LOVE to read. Obviously!
I live in Tinton Falls with my wife and stepkids, along with my giant Great Dane Fritz. My older kids go to TFMS and are in 7th grade, and my youngest is in 5th grade at SRS. You have probably seen me driving around town with Fritz's big face hanging out the window!
I love escape rooms, puzzles, Legos, and being creative. I have done over 100 escape rooms, and have escaped about 80 of them by myself without a team. I love to draw and create DIY holiday decorations. Last year I transformed a playhouse into a gingerbread house for my niece!
My hero is Dolly Parton because of all the incredible ways she influenced and affected the world around her. Her life was built on sharing kindness and joy, and I strive to be like her everyday. She also reminds us that we are enough, and should always let our own light and talents shine.
My classroom is always, and has always been, a come as you are classroom. I am here to help you become the best version of your sixth grade self. You are important, valued, and you BELONG.
