Our Approach
At The Family & Learning Center, we use a multi-faceted approach to equip students to reach their full potential.
Here’s how:
Each student’s plan is customized based on their unique learning style and the root cause behind their challenge(s).
The student’s academic, cognitive, and emotional strengths and challenges are considered when creating their plan.
Rather than focusing on one singular outcome (such as raising a grade), students focus on the learning process, building skills, developing strategies, and using tools they can apply in the classroom and beyond.
We used research-based methods to help students strengthen areas of weak cognitive processing.
We empower students to become more effective and independent learners and teach them how to advocate for themselves.
Educational Coaching focuses on teaching students how to learn, not just what to learn.
Educational Coaching is student-focused, rather than content-focused.
Coaching sessions include multi-sensory and active learning methods.
We communicate regularly with the student’s parents about progress, and ways to support the student at home.
With parental permission, we work collaboratively with the student’s teachers and other key professionals (such as psychologists, speech therapists, etc.).
Our team members collaborate to share insights and adjust student plans as needed.
Why do we call our services Educational Coaching?
We use Educational Therapy principles and methods however, we believe the term coaching is a better fit! Here’s why -
Students are often more comfortable and familiar with the word coaching, and many have had positive experiences with sports coaches.
The term therapy might feel intimidating to some students.
We help students achieve their learning goals with ongoing guidance, structured support, and constructive feedback.
Who are our students?
Our students:
Range in age from 5 to adult
Attend public, charter, and private schools. We also work with homeschooled students.
May be diagnosed with a learning disability or ADHD
Often, but not always, have 504 Plans or IEPs
"When our daughter Aubrey was diagnosed with learning differences, we didn’t know where to turn. She needed more than tutoring. She needed to learn how to learn. We are so grateful to have found The Family and Learning Center. We are building the foundation that Aubrey needs to be successful in life. She is working on problem solving, brainstorming, pacing herself, and chunking information. We thank her amazing coaches for her progress. Aubrey could easily resist going, but always has a smile on her face when we arrive and leave. The coaches know how to motivate her and keep the content interesting. They are well qualified, caring, and professional. As a mother, I am grateful for the open communication with the coaches and monthly progress reports. I know exactly what Aubrey is working on and how she is progressing. Aubrey is making great strides and it’s because of The Family and Learning Center. Thank-you for being AMAZING!"
