Camiguin School of Arts of Arts & Trades started as Mambajao Municipal Night high School in 1978 with 423 mostly working students and eight part time teachers with the Mambajao District Supervisor Mr. Arturo dela Rosa as the acting school- in charge. On October 3,1980, a 2.1 hectare lot was purchased as the high school site by the Municipal Mayor Nicolas E. Neri. The construction of a 13 room semi-permanent school building followed in 1981. In 1982, the school was able to hold its classes in its own school building and site. Classes went on smoothly under a full-pledged school principal, Mr. Rogelio Chan with 14 full time teachers. This time enrolment increased to 785 students. However, in 1984, a conflict occurred between the Municipal mayor and the schools division superintendent which resulted to the massive transfer of all the teachers and the principal and the possible closure of the high school. Due to mayor’s representation with the civil service commission, he was given authority to hire 5 new teachers to handle 325 students during that year, Mr. Hilario S. Abecia was designated teacher- in charge and special disbursing officer. In 1986, Mambajao Municipal High School was turned over to DECS again by Mayor Arceli M.Romualdo. In 1989, it became a nationalized high school. In 1990 ,the school was able to approval of their request of having the first year classes during the day followed by the second year and so on. Night classes was totally phased out through the approval of PTA resolution # 1 series of 1999, thus, Mambajao Night High School became Mambajao National High School. Mambajao National High School continued to increased its enrolment despite its dilapidated school building heavily damaged by typhoon Rufing in 1991. In 1993, however, Congressman Pedro Romualdo granted P1M out of his congressional fund. With it,the school underwent massive repair. The outdoor stage, basketball court and gate were constructed. Fencing and painting were also done. With the new face-lifting, the school increased its enrolment even more. On September 14,1996, the teaching staff drafted a resolution requesting the Hon. Congressman Pedro P. Romualdo for the conversion of Mambajao National High School to Camiguin School of Arts and Trades . The Hon. Congressman passed House bill 2898 to the House of senate on December 17,1997. It was on February 10, 1998 that RA 8481 was enacted,an act converting the Mambajao National High School to Camiguin School of Arts and Trades . On January 1, 1999, the full autonomy was granted to the school regarding administrative and financial functions. The school is now a TESDA supervised school.
