About Me

Hello! My name is Jaelen Cherry, and I am an animal science major at the University of Maryland- College Park. I am a member of the College Park Scholars- Public Leadership program here on campus. In this program, we focus on what it means to be a leader, and how to lead effectively. I joined this program because I felt leadership can be used in all settings, and I feel this even more after taking the public leadership courses. In animal science specifically, you can't communicate with the animals to the degree that you can with their owners to find out whats wrong. Learning to communicate with others and the ability to lead in situations where an animal is in need of your help is something these courses enabled me to do. At the University of Maryland, I've gotten to work closely with animals, but also with my peers who have similar goals as I do. I use lessons from public leadership when conducting projects in animal science, when I work with other students and my instructors.
