Santa Clara County Youth Climate Initiative
Background and Purpose
The Santa Clara County Youth Climate Initiative (SCCYCI) was launched in May 2023 through a statewide grant from the California Natural Resources Agency awarded to the County of Santa Clara Office of Sustainability to:
Pilot programs between the County of Santa Clara Office of Sustainability, community-based partners, and youth to enhance youth-led environmental and climate-action advocacy.
Convene a core alliance and network of diverse partners who focus on empowering youth agency for environmental action and accelerating the pace of change to meet the urgent realities of the climate crisis.
Develop a systemic approach to creating lasting change and equitable access to programs.
Shared Vision and Outcomes
We believe an investment in youth empowerment for climate action allows youth to move forward into college, career, and civic engagement pathways with the knowledge and skills for accelerating the development and implementation of environmental and climate justice solutions.
Our Goals:
Santa Clara County youth can articulate the scientific and social causes and effects of the environmental and climate crisis and are equipped with the knowledge and skills to succeed in climate aligned college and career pathways.
Santa Clara County youth are empowered to develop and implement sustainable and climate resilient solutions in their local community and beyond, are supported in driving action that is equity and justice informed, and grounded in advocacy and stewardship.
