2020 - 2021 APSA Leadership Team

Daniel Jovin

President

I am the president of our APSA club and local chapter. I help organize and lead the other officers to help us execute events and develop resources to help undergraduate students at Temple realize the excitement of a physician-scientist career. I want to earn an MD/PhD in a dual-degree program and eventually lead my own lab while working as a physician. I am interested in research on cardiovascular disease, endothelial dysfunction and inflammation, thrombosis and hemostasis, vascular biology, and platelet biology. I am currently applying to MD/PhD programs.
Fun Fact: I speak German and Romanian

Zuha Asghar

Vice President

I’m a transfer student at Temple and a senior public health major. I plan on getting my masters degree in sports medicine before attending medical school. I want to specialize in orthopedic medicine and work with NHL athletes. I plan on doing research concerning head injuries in athletes. Besides APSA, I’m involved in Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority at Temple, I hold a leadership position in the sorority as well. I’ve volunteered and participated in research at Jefferson University Hospital, New Jersey Medical School and University of Pennsylvania Hospital.

Pooja Patel

Secretary

Hi! My name’s Pooja Patel and I’m a senior Biochemistry major. I’m currently in the process of applying to medical school, so feel free to reach out. An interesting fact about me is that I’ve donated my hair a total of five times (close to 5 feet of hair!).

Adam Mangold

Treasurer

Hi everybody, my name is Adam Mangold and I am the current treasurer for APSA and a rising senior here at Temple! I am a biochemistry major on the pre-med track and am in the current medical school application cycle (hoping to attend Temple Medical School). I perform research in the Elrod Lab at Temple medical school with a focus on mitochondrial calcium bioenergetics as it relates to various pathologies seen in heart failure. I intend to specialize in endocrinology and cardiology, and I hope to continue doing research during my career as a physician-scientist for years to come. During my down time, I enjoy spending time with my sheepdog Olive, cooking, and spending time on the beach with my friends.

Rachel Winter

Event Coordinator

I'm Rachel, and I am a sophomore majoring in neuroscience with minors in Spanish and chemistry, while on the pre-medical track. I am the event coordinator for APSA, and I help plan and execute the special events that we host throughout the semester. I enjoy being a part of APSA and attending out events with people who share my interest in medicine and research.

 Salma Mami

Web Coordinator

I am a sophomore studying cellular and molecular neuroscience with a minor in criminal justice. For work, I am an intern at Lankenau Medical Center, and oversee the hospitals' academic pathway programs and work closely with medical students who rotate at MLH.  I do research at Perelman's School of Medicine Human genetics lab and study familial hypercholesterolemia.

Naveen Gedupoori

STARS Representative

Hi! My name is Naveen Gedupoori. I am a sophomore majoring in Neuroscience (CST) with a minor in Philosophy. As the STARS Coordinator for APSA, I keep record of events and ensure we qualify for the highest University club benefits possible.
Fun Fact: I enjoy reading non-fiction books and am currently trying to learn how to play the guitar.
If you need to reach me regarding the club, please email me at naveen.gedupoori@temple.edu

Nikkita Salla

Graduate Advisor

I graduated from Temple summa cum laude and with distinction in my major, Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience. During college, I was involved in neurobiology research in the Patterson lab investigating the neuro-immune mechanisms underlying aging-associated memory disorders. In my free time I love to run, read non-fiction, and watercolor paint

Arianna Valeri

Graduate Advisor

Hello. My name is Arianna and I am the former secretary and a founding member of APSA. I help by suggesting and helping to plan new initiatives and events within the club and occasionally helping out with social media. I recently graduated from Temple (spring 2020) with a double major in neuroscience and biology with a minor in French. Right now, I am working in a lab studying medulloblastoma and am enrolled in an EMT class. After taking two gap years, I hope to apply to MD/PhD programs, going on to study neural regeneration and then pursuing a career in academic neurosurgery.
