Whether you’re a seasoned Tech Trep Academy parent or new to our program, we want to give you the tools and information you need for a successful year!

Glossary of Terms

A-H

Announcements-Important communication from Tech Trep Academy about key events, program highlights, and policy updates. All announcements for the year are archived in InfoCenter under Announcements' and may be reviewed at any time.

Canvas-A safe and secure online learning platform where students access Tech Trep Academy Direct Tech courses

Canvas-based Tech Class-Online Tech Trep Academy Tech and Entrepreneurship elective courses accessed by the student directly inside of Canvas

Custom-built-Building a course in Schedule Builder around with student and parent selected materials. May include learning resources, private tutoring/lessons, and other educational supplies are purchased by parents.

Direct Order-Tech Trep Academy will purchase requested supplemental resources directly for a student through Amazon, Rainbow Resources, or other providers. Families sign up for zoom meetings with a direct order team member.

Enrollment Packet-Necessary documentation to enroll your student in this program. Uploaded into District website. (Birth certificate, immunization/exemption, proof of residency)

Field Trips-Tech Trep Academy organizes fun and educational field trips for our students. FREE for students and one parent. Other guests receive a discount. Families may attend field trips throughout the state.

Homeroom Resources -Core curriculum provided by Tech Trep Academy which maps to Indiana Core Standards (i.e. BrainPop, BrainPop Jr., Generation Genius, etc.) Points are used for many other optional resources (Reading Eggs, ALEKS, Accelerated Reader, IXL)

Homeroom Teacher - An Indiana-certified teacher. One teacher is assigned to each family with K-6 students and this person should be the first and main point of contact for the family. For grades 7 & 8 students are assigned subject- specific Indiana certified teachers.

InfoCenter-The main hub of our online program, a place for parents to get information, submit Learning Plans and Assessments, attendance, as well as complete direct orders.

Learning Assessment - One assessment is submitted for each of the 4 core subject areas every four weeks. These “assessments”need to demonstrate evidence of learning, which can be in the form of a screenshot of progress report or quiz from an online program, a report, a picture of a worksheet, a video of a student describing the PLG, etc. There are many forms these “assessments” can take. They need to demonstrate WHAT and HOW a PLG (State Standard) was learned. Check off the 8 required PLGs per year

Learning Log - 2-3 complete sentences updating homeroom teacher on student's progress toward a PLG. The learning log needs to clearly explain WHAT was learned and HOW it was learned.

Need Help Form-A form (also accessible through InfoCenter) to request help from a teacher or other Tech Trep Academy personnel.

Optional Homeroom Resources-These programs are available for request in Homeroom. These are at a group buy reduced cost so they are a great option. Each program uses points that will be deducted directly from the student’s supplemental learning resources. A list of available programs is in InfoCenter under the HOMEROOM tab.

InfoCenter Parent Calendar-A singular location in InfoCenter where you can view all program-related deadlines, holidays, testing dates, and events

Power Learning Goals-Otherwise known as PLG’s, these learning goals are aligned with the state standards in math, language arts, science, and social studies.

School of Enrollment-Tech Trep Academy partner school district - Cloverdale Community Schools

Schoology-An optional learning management system used by the TTA Jr. High virtual teachers to deliver and manage their classes. This is a student led option for uploading work for the teachers to grade.

Semester Learning Plan- A proposal submitted by parents to the Indiana certified teacher that shows how PLGS (state standards) will be met in each subject. Teachers provide feedback and suggestions and must approve the semester learning plan each semester. Parents can request additional resources or support.

Supplemental Learning Curriculum/Resources/Classes-Each student in grades K-6 has access to points that can be used for the supplemental learning resources.

Supplemental Learning Points - Students receive 85,000 points per semester for full time-enrollment per child.

Tech Trep Academy Direct Courses - A course that is directly deducted from your supplemental learning points and provided directly to the student by Tech Trep Academy

Truancy Letter - A formal letter sent to the parents from the administration team due to inactivity in submitting Learning plans and Assessment or for missing Special Education direct instruction. Truancy letters may result in removal from the program, restriction of points and/or inability to re-enroll in the program for the next school year. Cloverdale Community Schools is involved in the ultimate determination of truancy and removal from the program.

Semester Elective - Each student in grades K-8 will report twice a semester about the two chosen electives they have completed. This is a very broad elective which can include subjects such as Home Ec, Health, dance, marshal arts, engineering, LEGO robotics, sewing, photography, typing, music, PE, foreign languages, etc.

Withdrawals - Removal from the program, either voluntarily or when it appears that it’s not a good fit for your student; review Withdrawal Policy details in the Handbook.
