We are pleased to welcome you to our Global Shared Learning: Classroom / COIL experience where through a series of activities over the next weeks, you will have the opportunity to meet, interact and discuss with students from other countries, linking your courses and to develop multicultural skills that will improve your personal and professional lives.
This Global Shared Learning: Classroom will provide you with an international experience by collaborating across academic disciplines and countries. All participants will practice cross-cultural communication and global citizenship.
This is an excellent opportunity for you to experience a different perspective through an educational networking and cultural exchange that allows you to obtain a deeper understanding of yourself and those around you.
Besides the grade assigned by each institution, the students will also obtain a digital badge.
Nowadays, we live in a multicultural society. It is easy to find ourselves living in a community where we can identify several cultural groups, but do we really recognize and understand the differences between our cultures? Do we really engage and interact with others?
Here is where we start talking about inter-culturalism. It helps us to have a better understanding and respect for other cultures, and we are able to learn from one another and grow together.
This GSL Classroom experience is based on COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning), a teaching and learning methodology developed by Jon Rubin at the State University of New York (SUNY).
COIL combines the four essential dimensions of virtual mobility: (1) it is a collaborative exercise between teachers and students; (2) makes use of technology and online interaction; (3) it has international dimensions; and (4) it is integrated into the learning process.
