Being a fluency partner is supporting your child to become more 'automatic' and 'accurate' when reading.
When your child brings home a book that they can read:
Listen to them read, encourage them and celebrate them as a reader
Help them isolate the sounds and blend them together if they need to
Practise it regularly over the week - we are wanting fluency of the text when read aloud (by the end of the week they should be decoding quickly and not need to sound out the words)
Read your child books/poems/information that they cannot yet read on their own.
This builds:
Spoken Vocabulary and understanding of words
Enjoyment of Books
Connection and Time with family
Conversation about complex ideas
Stories that they will remember to support the creation of their own ideas in writing
It is important to us that we are working in partnership to support your child's learning.
If you would like to discuss their learning further, then please make contact with your child's teachers.
