learning about nonverbal cues as a form of communication; and
analysing a common social scenario encountered in school
"There is another way of communicating even when we don't say or hear anything," said Mr. Chang.
"It's called nonverbal cues - it's how we talk with our bodies without saying anything."
If I stand up straight, people know I'm confident. But if I slouch, they might think I'm tired or sad.
If I'm happy, I smile and wave my hands. If I'm sad, I might look down. If I’m angry, I might fold my hands.
When I want to make a point, I look people in the eyes. That way, they know I mean it.
If I speak slowly and clearly, they'll listen better. But if I talk too fast, people might not understand.
"Oh that must be why sometimes I feel angry or sad when my brother leaves without saying anything when we fight," said Ana.
"I usually talk fast and shout when I try to explain myself. And he doesn't even look me in the eyes during my explanation. I will try to talk calmly next time, hopefully we can communicate better after this!”
Now that you know we can communicate with our body, here's a challenge for you!
