knowing why I need to reach out for help; and
knowing who to reach out to for support
Mr. Chang then turned to the class and said, "You see, class, when we need help, it's okay to ask for it.
And when we can help someone, it's important to offer our help.
We're a team, and we're here to support each other."
When we reach out for help, we have the opportunity to learn new things.
Asking for help strengthens our relationships with others. It shows that we trust and value their support.
Also, there are times when we may feel overwhelmed, sad, or frustrated. Reaching out for help allows us to express our feelings and receive emotional support from those around us, whether it's a teacher, parent, or friend.
"Ana, who do you ask for help from when you need it?" Mr. Chang asked.
Ana explained,
"Last week when I fell off my bicycle,
I ran to my parents to help me treat my wounds.”
“At school,
if I need help with my homework,
I usually ask my teachers or my friends here in this classroom."
"Oh! I remember I saw a younger student being bullied,
he ran to the security guard to ask for help.
Luckily, the bully was scared of the guard and ran off!"
Mei Ling joined in.
"Okay, I'm all done, Mr. Chang! You can use the projector now," said Mei Ling.
"Thank you, Mei Ling!" Mr, Chang exclaimed.
"Yes, both Ana and Mei Ling are right. You can ask for help from anyone around you - older or younger, all can help.
If you never ask, you'll never know!"
Think of a time when you needed help, but you felt scared to ask for help, what did you do then?
