Tricks of the Trade
As someone who has been a substitute, part-time, and full time classroom teacher, I have experience with TTOCing from both sides of the coin. Below you'll find some helpful pointers that will benefit you as the guest teacher and will also be noticed and appreciated by the teacher for which you are filling in for.
Arrive on site, ahead of time ( if it's within your control)
To get connected to the internet/printer (just in case)
To go over the day plan.
To prepare and gather materials needed.
To go over class needs.
Most importantly, to know what to do in case of an emergency.
a few decks of cards
prizes ( pencils, candy, stickers etc)
dice
A book ( joke book, riddles, short stories)
object to throw or pass around ( bean bag/tennis ball)
Laptop (This is a personal choice)
Mark/comment on completed work.
Before you leave, tidy up, and put up the calendar day/schedule for the next day.
A note for the teacher
