Zones Intro
During this lesson, we talk about what the Zones are and how your body feels when you are in each zone. Recognizing signals from your body will help you to identify the feeling and the zone and help you to respond appropriately.
Blue Zone
Your body feels tired
Your body is moving slower than normal for you
You may be bored or have a headache
Feelings associated with Blue Zone: tired, bored, sad
Yellow Zone
Your body is starting to move too fast
Your heart is racing a little faster than normal for you
Your hands might be clenched
You may feel like you are "buzzing" with excitement!
Feelings associated with Yellow Zone excited, frustrated, worried, silly, some loss of control
Green Zone
Your body feels "normal" (we talk about how everyone has different comfortable feelings and when you are in your Green Zone, you feel like your "normal" self)
We call this our "Optimal Learning Zone", or I tell them it's also my "Optimal Teaching Zone" because our mind is calm and focused on the task at hand, and not distracted with uncomfortable feelings
Feelings associated with Green Zone: happy, calm, ready to learn, focused
Red Zone:
Your body feels out of control
I tell students that if they are in the Red Zone, they probably need help from an adult to figure out how to reset and get back to Green so they can learn their best
Feelings associated with Red Zone: mad, elated, aggressive, terrified
