Military History

U.S. Military History (5957)

This elective is designed to prepare high school students for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities and privileges as American citizens. The course will improve leadership ability, communication skills and critical thinking skills. The course is also designed to provide primary and senior-level cadet leaders and students the opportunity for participation in World Affairs Council Seminars and educational field trips (staff rides) to historic battlefields and monuments. This course presents a comprehensive U.S. Military History review. Major facets of the course include our military actions from pre-revolution to present. Cadets and scholars are presented the rationale of our involvement in these wars from both the perspective of scholars and from those fighting in our wars, especially the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. We will use films presented by Subject Matter Experts (SME), including General Petraeus and his military advisory team to supplement instruction.
