“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”
― William Arthur Ward
Every year, we honor a teacher who has gone above and beyond with their AP students. This year, we are proud to bestow this honor upon Andrew Schnitzius - a teacher who has inspired his students not only through his lessons but through his personal connections with them. We reached out to his students for some reflection on what makes him such an excellent teacher and, as you read them, you will understand why Mr. Schnitzius was chosen as our AP Teacher of the Year.
Congratulations, Mr. Schnitzius! We appreciate everything you do for our students, our campus, and our community.
That is so exciting and well deserved! Mr. Schnitzius is an amazing teacher and I have been so grateful to have him for AP Stats this year! One thing that truly stood out to me especially this year, with so many people participating in virtual learning, is that Mr. Schnitzius still took the time each day to call role just so every student could feel included in the class, and he always made sure to say that he was glad that each of us was present. I have learned so much from Mr. Schnitzius this year and I appreciate how hard he has worked to make his class special.

Mr. Schnitzius is one of the only teachers I know that can make a subject as complicated as high school, be a fun, interactive, and easygoing experience.

Mr. Schnitzius is one of the greatest teachers I have ever had. He is dedicated and caring to a fault. Whenever I had a question or needed help with a homework problem, Mr. Schnitzius would always respond immediately with advice and supplementary information. In class, whenever you were confused or lost he would kindly explain the problem to you and then double checked with you that you understood the topic. Mr. Schnitzius went out of his way to provide us with incredible, self-made study guides and practice problems all throughout the year, to help us prepare for upcoming tests and quizzes. Even when AP tests came around, Mr. Schnitzius gave us a magnitude of helpful studying tools and organized practice sets by topic, to make sure we were ready. Additionally, Mr. Schnitzius is just a great, kind, and upstanding guy who will always listen to what you have to say and make sure you are doing well. I was so blessed to have Mr. Schnitzius as my AP Statistics teacher and he more than deserving of this award.

Mr. Schnitzius has been one of my favorite teachers this year! Despite learning virtually, I still felt like I was learning as much as I would have been if it was a normal year. Mr. Schnitzius was always able to answer any of my questions about math/grades/etc. Thank you for a great year!

I like how Mr. Schnitzius starts every class by individually greeting every student, both online and in-person, while doing attendance.

My mornings always start off the right way when I'm in Mr. Schnitzius's class because of the little things he does. For example, when saying attendance, he will say your name and includes little phrases like, "Thank you for being here today in class!" or "I hope your day is going well so far!". It makes me feel appreciated for getting to class on time and ready to learn.

Mr. Schnitzius has been so kind and supportive this whole year. He's done so many little things such as addressing each student and saying that he is happy that they are there. These little things have made such a large difference in this year's environment. I'm so happy to have had Mr. Schnitzius, though I only wish I could've had him during a regular year so I could interact with him more. Congratulations Mr. Schnitzius. You really deserve this. Thank you for such a great year.

Mr. Schnitzius has been one of my favorite teachers ever. Not only does he do an outstanding job of teaching us, but he also makes sure that everyone understands the topic and keeps everyone engaged. He has made virtual learning much less complex and more enjoyable. Congratulations Mr. Schnitzius, and thank you for everything you have done.

Hi, my name is Grace Wimberly and I had Mr. Schnitzius my freshman year for Pre-AP Geometry and this year for AP Statistics. He is a teacher that goes above and beyond for every single one of his students and truly cares for them. I've been blessed to have Mr. Schnitzius as a teacher 2/4 years that I've been at Paschal and I can truly say he has made my high school experience better.
Grace Wimberly
He did a great job teaching this year even under some of the most difficult circumstances, and I appreciate the effort he put into teaching this class day in and day out. All the little things from acknowledging and greeting us every single day during attendance to giving us personal updates on his kids. It was more than a class to him because he truly wanted to connect with us and hated that he couldn't see many of our faces this school year. I appreciate everything that he did for us, and he is well deserving of this award! Congratulations Mr. Schnitzius!

I like how caring he is. He always makes sure to tell each of his students that he's glad they're in class, and he goes out of his way to make sure we all understand each lesson. I'm really glad I was able to have him as a teacher.

Dear Mr. Schnitzius,
I am so honored to have you as a teacher this year. Even though we are virtual, I always felt welcomed into your class. The way you greet each and every one of your students with a warm welcome really shows how much you care about them. You’re honestly one of a kind and a teacher every student wishes they had. Congrats on AP Teacher of the Year, you deserve it!
Sincerely, Stephenie Agu
Mr. Schnitzius is genuinely the most hardworking and caring teacher I have ever had. Mr. Schnitizius will do anything in his power to help you with anything, and it doesn't even have to be related to math. He is one of the only teachers that constantly checks for the well-being of his students. You can certainly guarantee that Mr. Schnitzius will be available for tutoring every day at lunch, and he will even help you after or before school if he has time. His work ethic and his love for teaching is something that is extremely rare and I wish him the best of luck.

Mr. Schnitzius answered every question, no matter how big or small. He never let one person feel behind, and is the greatest math teacher I've ever had.
Mr. Schnitzius has been the best teacher this year & has made AP Statistics not too hard. I learned a lot in his class, he has done a great job teaching this year.

Mr. Schnitzius is one of those teachers that you know genuinely cares about you and your wellbeing. He takes the time to greet each student at the beginning of class. He sends out surveys that check in on us, and contacts us if he feels like our answers warranted it. I am grateful to have had him as a teacher during this crazy year.

Mr. Schnitzius is a special teacher. He takes time every day to ask everyone how they're doing!! When he's doing attendance he addresses everyone by name and tells each and every one of us he's happy we're there, he wants everyone to feel appreciated and welcomed!! What's also stood out to me about him is that whenever he's helping us do problems and working us through them, he'll always remember who gave the answer to what step and he'll reference them later by name!! We could be on the fifth question and he'll say 'Using the tip that so-and-so said' and 'As this person said'. He remembers who's contributed and he makes sure we get credit for learning and trying!! He's truly a one-in-a-million teacher and he deserves this award!
Caroline Waldvogel
Mr. Schnitzius made me love math again! His teaching methods and commitment to making himself available really work to minimize students' worries about not "getting it". Also, no matter the grade you get on an assignment, he will always leave encouraging feedback and helpful tips. I'm so glad I took AP Stats and had Mr. Schnitzius as my teacher.
Lucy Guttery
Mr. Schnitzius has been one of the best teachers I have ever had. He has been very patient and caring with all of his students. Mr. Schnitzius pushed me to be the very best I could be and his setup of the curriculum was incredible.
Peyton Gristina
He is the most patient and caring Teacher I think I will ever have in my academic career. He has an insane ability to take time for every student to grasp a concept while maintaining maximum efficiency when it comes to time.
Garrett Shuler
Congratulations Mr. Schnitzius! You're genuinely one of the nicest teachers I have ever met in my life. I really appreciate how patient and understanding you are even when we don't understand a concept after several explanations. You really have made my school year so much better, and I hope you know just how big of an impact you have made in our lives. Thank you so much!
Hope Lee
Mr. Schnitzius is always positive and treats every one of his students fairly. He always passes on a great attitude and has words of encouragement and motivation for us every day.

It doesn't surprise me that he won this award. Mr. Schnitzius is far and away the best math teacher I've ever had the pleasure of being taught by. He has guided me extraordinary well through every concept covered in class. Mr. Schnitzius made math both fun and understandable through a very inclusive teaching style. He would never make a student feel bad about a question they had despite how obvious or simple the answer may be. I am extremely appreciative to Mr. Schnitzius for making math a topic I have a desire to learn and for creating an environment that promotes constructive learning.

Mr. Schnitzius is the kindest teacher I've ever had. When we were kids, we were always told "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all" and we just rolled our eyes at it. It's been years since I've heard it again, but Mr. Schnitzius says it occasionally. I don't roll my eyes at it anymore, because he truly lives it out. It's not just a hypocritical way of making kids behave or be quiet to him. He gently makes class a very inclusive and safe space and inspires us to do better. I've never heard an unkind word from him, and he always stays positive. He kindly reminds us of late work and does his best not to add to our stress. He truly deserves this reward and I am blessed to have him as my teacher.
