Rationale
Adding predictability to students' days by using visual schedules paired with clocks and timers can help reduce students' anxiety related to "what comes next," "when can I XYZ," and "when will I be done with XYZ." While many of us develop visual schedule systems for students who experience anxiety related to schedule/what to expect, sometimes there are too many steps.
"First/Then" and "First/Then/Last" schedules can help in these scenarios. You can print, laminate, and write on these with an expo or Vis-a-Vis marker, or you can add velcro or TACK-IT Over & Over adhesive and keep a bank of schedule cards in an envelope, file folder, or pencil box.
If adding Velcro, remember the "hook on the book" rule: put the rough side on the schedule base and the soft velcro on the backs of the cards. If using TACK-IT Over & Over adhesive, place a small dot on the backs of laminated schedule cards and allow it to dry for 24 hours before use.
