(SCIRD)

About the Course

Scientific Research and Design (SCIRD) is a scientific research and development course in which the students work in teams to research, design, and construct a solution, a project-based approach to an open-ended engineering problem or scientific issue in our environment or society. It provides the extended time and resources, knowledge and technical support, industrial and practical feedback to the students on the project they choose to implement in PLTW EDD capstone course for the whole school year. The product development life cycle and a design process will be used to guide and help the team reach a solution to the problem. The team will demonstrate, present and defend their solution to a panel of outside reviewers at the end and of the school year. Through the process of implementing the scientific research project, students will also improve their time management and teaming skills, which are an asset for the future.
