My name is Charlie Tang. I grew up and completed most of my education in Taiwan, a province of the Republic of China. Chinese is my native language and English second one while I can also speak three others. Awarded with a full scholarship, I came to America for my graduate study and earned my master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California where I learned so much from my great laureate professors. After graduating from college, I started my career as an engineer and project manager dealing with all kinds of avionics devices onboard the fighter jets and a variety of tests on the aeronautical systems either in the lab or factory, on the ground or in the air. Being a young engineer three decades ago, I was once relocated to Fort Worth and had a chance to work with the professionals from General Dynamics Co. which was merged to Lockheed Martin Aerospace later. I also worked on projects that built the air defense system and taxation data center. In addition, I started up a company which was developing a technology that can convert starch-based energy crops into biofuels.
This is my fourth year of teaching and first year with Fort Worth ISD. Before, I taught aerospace engineering, AP physics and math. This year I will be teaching three engineering courses at the STEM department. They are Principles of Applied Engineering(PRAPPENG), Engineering Design and Presentation(ENGDSPR) and Scientific Research and Design(SCIRD). These courses are built on project-based and hands-on learning and to be instructed with the curriculum developed by Engineering Your World, the University of Texas at Austin and Project Lead The Way.
My wife and I have three adult children who are all college students now. I enjoy anything related to STEM disciplines, specifically, aviation. I also love a variety of cultures, music, arts, sports, gourmet and especially, travelling around the globe. I create an exponential symbol to represent myself, (LT)^(LT), a LifeTime Learner and Thinker.
I am looking forward to working with you all in my class. We together will make it a great year ever. I believe it is once in our life time and a memorable moment when we can learn amid challenges and difficulty and still stay strong and positive.
