Students participating in Region Choir and/or UIL (November - March) will have a 1 hour rehearsal once a week either before or after school. These rehearsals are aimed to assist students on their specific voice part and provide more individualized attention than is available in class.
MMS Fine Arts, Athletics, and teachers work together to support our multi-talented students. Instructors communicate ahead of time to make sure students are able to attend their activities. This may mean a student misses part of a practice or rehearsal to attend another event and the student will not be penalized in either activity.
In a typical year, the choir has 4 major concerts: the Fall Concert (October), Winter Concert (December), UIL Preview Concert (March), and Pop Show (May). Concerts are less than an hour and the dress rehearsals usually take place the hour before the concert begins. There are also several contests the students have the opportunity to participate in. The individual contests are Solo Contest and All Region Auditions and the ensemble contests are Small Ensemble Contest, FWISD Benchmark, and UIL Concert and Sight Reading.
Because our instruments are housed in our bodies, choir is an inexpensive activity! There is a $25 activity fee that covers the student's choir shirt, uniform cleaning, binder, music, and other supplies throughout the year.
Yes! The cost of choir should not prohibit anyone from joining. An application will go out at the beginning of the year. If you have more questions, please contact Mr. Crawford. matthew.crawford@fwisd.org
