I have worked at Carter-Riverside High School for 16 years, and this is my fourth year as a Post-Secondary Success Specialist. I enjoy working with students to find a successful trajectory of courses through high school and planning for their success beyond it. I am also a Carter alumni... Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle!

I am in my 6th year as a Professional School Counselor and at Carter Riverside High School, but I have been in education since 1999. Over the years, I have been an English teacher to 7th, 8th, and 9th graders, an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders, and an ESL Specialist and Academic Language Specialist at elementary, middle, and high schools in Fort Worth ISD.
I graduated in 1995 from Mississippi State University with a B.A. in English and in 1999 from University of Alabama at Birmingham with an M.A. in Education. I studied at the University of Memphis to receive my ESL certification, and I completed my counseling certification through the Region 10 Educational Service Center in Richardson, Texas. I strongly believe in education and consider myself a lifelong learner.
I enjoy reading, writing, painting, and doing puzzles, and I love going for long walks and hikes, both by myself and with my family. My dream is to see all of the National Parks in the United States, and I am about halfway there.
My name is Maria Ines Magalhaes Castro, and I am the Family and Community Outreach Coordinator at Carter Riverside High School. I work directly with the school staff and the community to help serve the needs of students and families, supporting students’ postsecondary plans with the Go Center staff. I am available to help them apply to college, complete the financial aid process (FAFSA and TASFA), apply for scholarships, find jobs after graduation, pursue a career in the military, and much more. We want to ensure all students have a plan when they graduate. I work with all grade levels, and I am available to answer any questions and walk alongside students through high school and after graduation. My goal is to make sure parents and students know the opportunities they have after they leave Carter Riverside High School.
