FINE ARTS / Bellas artes: 

Students at World Languages Institute have the opportunity to choose between Art, Theatre and Estudiantina:

• Visual Arts is offered at WLI starting at 6th grade through 12th.  Middle School Art (6th-8th) covers the fundamentals of art focusing on the elements of art (line, shape, form, color, value, space and texture) along with developing basic drawing skills, critical problem solving, hand eye coordination as well as fostering student creativity. We introduce the students to a variety of artists, focus on art from different cultures while using different art supplies and tools.  High school art focuses on the elements of art as well as the principles of design (balance, proportion, unity, variety, emphasis, movement, and pattern).  We use a variety of art mediums and tools while discovering artists and different techniques.  We also offer AP Studio Art for juniors and seniors that are more advanced and ready to take on the challenge of completing a portfolio and submitting it the AP College Board to try and earn college credit.  100% of our students achieved a passing score last year.

The WLI Visual Arts program participates in a variety of activities including the district art show, art contests and various other competitions throughout the year.  Each year our middle school and high school art students participate in VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event)at the local level.  This is an amazing opportunity for our students to present their artwork to a judge where they learn to speak about their artwork and gain confidence in the process.  The high school art students have made it to the state VASE competition for the past 4 years in a row.  Each year the high school students in the Visual Arts program can earn their letterman jackets based on a set criterion from the district.  We have several of our high school students who have earned this distinct honor.  The art students enjoy participating in several community events such as Main Street Arts Festival where the students get the opportunity to make and sell their art.  There is always something fun and amazing happening in the art department, our goal is to foster the creativity in our students one project at a time.  Please visit the "Virtual Tour" section to learn more.

• The WLI Theatre Arts department is an all level course starting at 6th grade through 12th.  Middle School Theatre (6th-8th) covers the fundamentals of theatre including Theatre history, pantomime, puppetry, improvisation, and monologues.  High school Theatre serves as a college prep with such activities as learning script analysis, makeup, stage combat, costume building, filmmaking, and many of the acting methods that will be explored in depth once the student enters college. 

The Theatre Arts Department is also home to the award winning WLI Gryphons Theatre.  The WLI Gryphons Theatre is a proud member of the Texas Junior Thespians, an honor society celebrating creativity with a very theatrical slant.  We are looking to finally charter our High School membership in 2021.  In 2019 The WLI Gryphons Middle School won the award for alternate play in the UIL Middle School One Act Play Competition with our production of “The Rabbit Who Wanted to be a Man”. In 2020, we won advancing play as well as best crew for our performance of “Any Body for Tea?”   We have performed several plays, all of which have been very well received by the WLI community and will continue to do so as the Gryphons have nowhere else to go but up!  Visit the "Virtual Tour" section to learn more.

• Estudiantina is a classical musical ensemble where the members both sing and play a string instrument.  Students are able to practice their singing and learn how to play the guitar.  Visit the "Virtual Tour" section to learn more.

Los estudiantes del Instituto de Idiomas del Mundo tienen la oportunidad de elegir entre Arte, Teatro y Estudiantina:

• Artes visuales se ofrecen en WLI desde el sexto grado hasta el doceavo. Arte de la escuela secundaria (6o-8o) cubre los fundamentos del arte enfocándose en los elementos de arte (línea, forma, color, valor, espacio y textura) junto con el desarrollo de habilidades básicas de dibujo, resolución de problemas críticos, coordinación ojo-mano también como fomento de la creatividad de los estudiantes. Presentamos a los estudiantes a una variedad de artistas, nos enfocamos en el arte de diferentes culturas mientras usamos diferentes materiales y herramientas de arte. El arte de la escuela secundaria se centra en los elementos del arte, así como en los principios del diseño (equilibrio, proporción, unidad, variedad, énfasis, movimiento y patrón). Usamos una variedad de medios y herramientas artísticas mientras descubrimos artistas y diferentes técnicas. También ofrecemos AP Studio Art para estudiantes del tercer y cuarto año que están más avanzados y están listos para asumir el desafío de completar un portafolio y enviarlo al AP College Board para intentar obtener créditos universitarios. 100% de nuestros estudiantes aprobaron el examen el año pasado.  

El programa de artes visuales de WLI participa en una variedad de actividades que incluyen la exhibición de arte del distrito, concursos de arte y varias otras competencias durante el año. Cada año, nuestros estudiantes de arte de la escuela secundaria y de la preparatoria participan en VASE (Evento académico de artes visuales) a nivel local. Esta es una oportunidad increíble para que nuestros estudiantes presenten su obra de arte a un juez, donde aprenden a hablar sobre su obra de arte y ganan confianza en el proceso. Los estudiantes de arte de la preparatoria han llegado a la competencia estatal VASE durante los últimos 4 años seguidos. Cada año, los estudiantes de la preparatoria en el programa de Artes Visuales pueden ganar sus chaquetas "letterman" según un criterio establecido del distrito. Tenemos varios de nuestros estudiantes de secundaria que se han ganado este distintivo honor. Los estudiantes de arte disfrutan participar en varios eventos comunitarios como "Main Street Arts Festival" donde los estudiantes tienen la oportunidad de hacer y vender su arte. • El departamento de Artes Teatrales de WLI es un curso que comienza en el 6º grado hasta el 12º grado. El teatro de la escuela intermedia (6º al 8º) cubre los fundamentos del teatro incluyendo la historia del teatro, la pantomima, los títeres, la improvisación y los monólogos. El teatro de la escuela secundaria sirve como preparación para la universidad con actividades como aprender análisis de guiones, maquillaje, combate escénico, construcción de escenas, realización de películas y muchos de los métodos de actuación que se explorarán en profundidad una vez que el estudiante ingrese a la universidad.

El Departamento de Artes Teatrales también alberga el galardonado WLI Gryphons Theatre. El WLI Gryphons Theatre es un miembro orgulloso de Texas Junior Thespians, una sociedad de honor que celebra la creatividad con una inclinación muy teatral. Estamos buscando finalmente constituir nuestra membresía de la escuela secundaria en 2021. En 2019, la escuela secundaria WLI Gryphons ganó el premio alternativo en la competencia UIL de "One Act Play" entre las escuelas intermedias con nuestra producción de “El conejo que quería ser un hombre”. En 2020, ganamos el premio avanzado y el mejor equipo por nuestra interpretación de "Any Body for Tea?" Hemos realizado varias obras, todas las cuales han sido muy bien recibidas por la comunidad de WLI y continuaremos haciéndolo ya que los Gryphons no tienen a dónde ir más que hacia arriba.  Favor de visitar le sección "Visita virtual" para aprender más.
