I teach broadcast journalism/media technology as well as yearbook courses at Southwest High School.
I have taught at Southwest since 2008. Prior to that I attended TCU where I majored in broadcast journalism with a double minor in education and political science. Following graduation from TCU, I worked as a news reporter and morning anchor for the NBC affiliate in Abilene, Texas.
I love journalism and preparing the next generation of journalists. I find competitions to be one of the most rewarding experiences for students.
Through my classes, students have competed at the district, state and national level for SkillsUSA where we have even earned two national championships (I am pictured to the left with the National 1st place Broadcast News Production team) and nearly 20 state championships. Students have also competed at the regional level for UIL journalism, won the TeenVideo Fest contest, had work accepted and recognized in the national wrkxfmly photography competition as well as the Fort Worth Country Day School Black and White Images exhibition. Together, we will work to accomplish your goals to prepare you for success in college and/or your career.
In my class, be prepared for real-world learning, a chance to grow your skills and the opportunity to build your portfolio.
While teaching at Southwest, I have been named the Fort Worth ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year, Southwest Teacher of the Year twice, SkillsUSA District 4 Teacher of the Year and Crescent Real Estate Teaching Chair of Excellence in Career and Technology Education.
