If you have a student that says "I want to kill myself", "I want to die", "I wish I was dead", or something along these lines, he/she needs to talk to an Intervention Specialist/Counselor immediately!!
You can:
Send an email to an Intervention Specialist/Counselor. Do not put the child’s full name in the email (First initial, Last name). In the email please state “emergency” in the subject line. In the body of the email state that you have concerns about “SJohnson” due to an assignment, outcry, suspicion or friend referral.
Call the front office and ask to be transferred to a member of the Intervention Specialist/Counseling team.
Call an Intervention Specialist/Counselor cell or office phone to report your concern.
IF POSSIBLE GET AN ADDRESS FOR THE STUDENT’S IMMEDIATE LOCATION

If you have a student that has written something concerning or drawn a concerning picture, please let an Intervention Specialist/Counselor know as soon as possible.
You can:
1. Make a copy of writing or drawing or forward it with an email to an Intervention Specialist/Counselor
2. Send an email to an Intervention Specialist/Counselor. Do not put the child’s full name in the email (First initial, Last name).
3. Call the front office and ask to be transferred to an Intervention Specialist/Counselor.
4. Call an Intervention Specialist/Counselor's cell or office phone to report your concern.
If you have a student that is cutting, whether the cuts are deep or superficial, please let an Intervention Specialist/Counselor know as soon as possible. *** If a student is cutting, it does not mean he/she is suicidal, but he/she does need help.
You can:
1. Send an email to an Intervention Specialist/Counselor. Do not put the child’s full name in the email (First initial,
Last name).
2. Face to Face report concern to an Intervention Specialist/Counselor
3. Call the front office and ask to be transferred to an Intervention Specialist/Counselor
4. Call an Intervention Specialist/Counselor cell or office phone to report your concern.
If you have concerns about a student's emotional health, but he/she has not made any suicidal statements, you can:
1. Email your concern to an Intervention Specialist/Counselor. Do not put the child’s full name in the email (First initial, Last name).
2. Call the front office and ask to be transferred to an Intervention Specialist/Counselor.
3. Call an Intervention Specialist/Counselor's cell or office phone to report your concern.
4. Discuss your concerns with your team and make a team referral to an Intervention Specialist/Counselor
If a student tells you they are being abused physically or sexually, please let an Intervention Specialist/Counselor know as soon as possible.
1. Do not promise to keep the abuse a secret.
You have 48 hours to report the abuse after an outcry has been made. IT IS YOUR LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY TO REPORT ABUSE TO CPS.
2. Do not ask questions. If you suspect abuse may be occurring, please report your suspicions to an Intervention Specialist/Counselor.
3. Call the front office and ask to be transferred to an Intervention Specialist/Counselor.
4. Call an Intervention Specialist/Counselor's cell or office phone to report your concern.
5. Face to Face report outcry to an Intervention Specialist/Counselor.
6. Email that there has been outcry or you have a concern to an Intervention Specialist/Counselor. Do not put the child’s full name in the email (First initial, Last name). Do not go into detail about the outcry on email.
PLEASE REMEMBER:
#1 - You must inform a member of the Student Support Team about an outcry of suicide, cutting, and abuse even if the child tells you that they trust you to not tell anyone or that they were “just kidding”.
#2 - Do not wait until after school to tell us about these situations. Please report any and all threats immediately by email, phone call to counselor, or face to face.
#3 - You have 48 hours to report abuse outcries to CPS. (The Intervention Specialist/Counselor will make a report in addition to your report.)
