Assignment Sorting
Having assignments sorted in the Gradebook according to "Newest First" will keep the latest assignments you entered in the Gradebook closest to the student's name. Having them sort by Due Date will allow you to see assignment grades in the order in which they should be turned in by students. Categories will group assignments together, so all test grades are in one area and all daily work in another, etc. This is up to user preference to decide which is most helpful to them.
Enter Student Numbers in Gradebook
This setting allows you to assign a special code to students, so you can print or share grade reports without having the students' names and IDs attached. Please note, however, students do have their own access to Focus through the Classlink Portal, and parents have access after signing up for the Parent Portal. Posting grades for the class to see is not a required practice. The most secure way for students to see their grades is by using their own access to Focus or by their Parents accessing the Parent Portal.
Custom Grades
This section allows you to make a custom grade for either "Exclude" or "Zero" grades in the gradebook. A favorite of users is to add an "M" Grade for "Missing" and to either select that it is Excluded or a Zero in the gradebook. This helps teachers differentiate between students who scored a zero on an assignment and those who did not turn the assignment in. [See Figure 1 below]
