Home > 4 Consumption > 4-2 Analysis of Consumer Usage Problems
🔍Four major problems occur in household rice cooking:
1. Before Cooking – Ignoring the Energy Benefits of Soaking
Problem:Most families cook rice immediately after washing it.
Data Analysis:However, experiments show that soaking rice for 30 minutes reduces cooking time by about 6 minutes. If rice is cooked once a day, this can save about 15 kWh of electricity per year, which is equivalent to reducing about 7.5 kg CO₂ emissions.
2. During Cooking – Poor Equipment Maintenance
Problem1:Burnt heating plates and loose cooker lids cause heat loss.
Problem2:cooking very small portions, which lowers energy efficiency
3. After Cooking – Excessive Use of the “Keep Warm” Function
Problem:Many people keep rice warm for up to 10 hours.
Calculation:Keeping rice warm for 10 hours uses about 0.4 kWh of electricity. If 1,000 families do this, about 400 kWh of electricity would be wasted every day, producing around 198 kg of CO₂ emissions.
4. Consumer Awareness – Lack of Knowledge about Carbon Labels
Problem:Consumers often choose rice based on brand or price and rarely check the origin or carbon footprint labels, even though imported rice often has a much higher carbon footprint than locally produced rice.
