Woburn’s SHSM Health & Wellness program stands out through its dynamic partnership with Scarborough Health Network (SHN), offering students rich, hands-on learning experiences beyond the classroom. Through monthly small-group hospital visits, students explored different healthcare topics, toured facilities, and engaged directly with professionals in the field. These experiences were brought back to school, where students created educational campaigns and materials to raise awareness among peers and families. A highlight of the year was SHN’s Zoo Day, where students participated in community fundraising, learned about the SHN Foundation, and discovered the vital role of philanthropy in healthcare. These reach-ahead and experiential learning opportunities help students build confidence, deepen their understanding of the health sector, and make meaningful connections with their community.
"Being part of Woburn’s SHSM Health & Wellness program was one of the best parts of my high school experience. The hospital visits and hands-on workshops gave me a real look into healthcare careers and helped me realize my passion for helping others. SHSM Zoo Day was not only fun, but also taught me valuable teamwork and leadership skills and how there are many careers related to healthcare in the zoo. SHSM helped me grow personally and professionally, and it made my high school years more meaningful and focused while giving me a wide range of career opportunities that I can look forward to."
