In the Visual Arts department, we focus on many different mediums, including drawing, painting, print-making, digital art and many others. We help students to develop visual literacy, problem-solving, creativity and collaboration, which are important, transferable skills.
Grade 9 Expressions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Studies (NAC1O)
In the grade 9 visual arts course, students will learn about art through Indigenous perspectives and interactions with guest artists, speakers and community partnerships. Students explore Indigenous identity, relationships and sovereignty in their learning and produce meaningful studio-based artwork using traditional and new media techniques.
Grade 10-12 Visual Arts
In senior-level classes, we focus on portfolio building for those who are interested in pursuing Art in post-secondary studies. Students work with a variety of techniques and tools to create: Drawings with charcoal, pencil, ink, conte, oil pastels, chalk pastels and pencil crayons; Painting with watercolours and acrylic paint; Sculpting with foam, clay, cardboard, plastic, assemblage and paper mache; Printmaking with linoleum, drypoint, and monotypes.
