Grade 11
Industrial Mechanical Design & Architecture
Industrial Mechanical Design & Architecture
This course examines how technological design is influenced by human, environmental, financial, and material requirements and resources. Students will research, design, build, and assess solutions that meet specific human needs, using working drawings and other communication methods to present their design ideas. They will develop an awareness of environmental, societal, and cultural issues related to technological design, and will explore career opportunities in the field, as well as the college and/or university program requirements for them.
Prerequisite: None
"This course has taught me multiple tools to help me in the design world. I have learned how to design toys, sketch ideas, listen to a checklist to meet "clients" needs, how to compromise on spaces, how to use space efficiently, and more. 3D printing has allowed me to create, produce and design something. This learning experience has taught me to understand problems, find out the issues, then prototype and find a solution to make a toy. This can be used in most problem solving scenarios in the future.
I do feel that I have grown as a person. I feel more informed about the architectural world, and I now understand how to approach design type projects, now that I have more experience. I have grown as a designer in this classroom as I have created a legitimate physical toy that I never thought I would ever do. I have played the role as an architect when I designed the shipping container home. Without taking this course I never would have tapped into my creative side."
